Regardless of the obstacles that may arise, people are uniting into one voice and speaking out. Come and explore the different problems various New York City communities face and how they're rising up against oppression.

Ed-OKAY?-tion: Your Key to the Future (Have you lost it?)
Do you ever have nightmares just thinking about applying to college? Do you ever wonder if you have received an adequate education, and where this education will take you in the future? If so, come to our workshop, where we will reflect on educational opportunities in our New York City area, and raise awareness of present day disparities in the educational arena. Through exciting discussion and out-of-this-world activities, you can make a difference!

Expression Session
From the rice paddies of Japan to the gritty streets of Brooklyn, music is more world wide than the web. Oppression has silenced many groups of people in many different ways. Music has always been a way to fight back: one song, one drum beat at a time. So turn up the volume and join us as we explore the sounds of oppression and growth.

"Whatever You Do, Do It Good"- Arts & Literature
Tired of feeling oppressed, repressed and depressed about what's going on in your school, community, the world? Don't just sit there and let it overcome you. Express yourself! Sick of listening to mainstream society and the perpetual stereotypes that people still seem to buy into? Do you want to be heard? This workshop will help you discover that through art and writing you can stand up for your beliefs and voice your feelings. Show people what you can do to promote change in a creative way - a pen or a paintbrush can be more powerful than you think.

I Shop, Therefore I Am
The Gap, H&M, Abercrombie & Fitch, Apple, McDonalds, Macys, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nike, Adidas, Old Navy, IKEA, General Motors, Mazda, Pantene. There are an infinite number of brands out there, all vying for your attention and your dollar. Some will succeed, some will fail. Marketers spend millions each year to influence your decisions. Do you still think you're in control? In this workshop we will explore the practices and tactics of the marketing industry. We will challenge the way youth consumers make associations and discover the power WE have as consumers.

Yellow Power
Do you think you know about New York City's Chinatown? Are you aware of the struggles faced by Asian Americans in the 20th century? The fight for equality? Or did Asian Americans' passivity prevent them from unifying against adversity? If questions like these intrigue you, come to our workshop where we will explore the 1970's birth of "Yellow Power" in New York's Chinatown. Dim sum and soy sauce provided. Just kidding.
